-Sumatran Giant Purple-

Scolopendra sp. 'Sumatra'

-This is a large, stunning Chilopod hailing from the tropical forests of Sumatra. It may or may not be a locality variation of Scolopendra subspinipes, it could also be a distinct species or sub-species. More data will be needed to confer this and many other insular centipedes taxonomical status.

-Tropical forest floor is this centipedes natural habitat. Humidity, balanced with good air flow is a must, avoid a wet swampy enclosure. You want well drained, deep substrate, with lots of leaf litter, or flat pieces of wood to allow natural burrowing and reclusive behavior. Centipedes are nocturnal and highly sensitive to light and vibrations.

-Like many members of genus Scolopendra, these are large centipedes and 6-8" is an average length.
