-Regal Jumping Spider-

Phidippus regius

-One of the largest and most widespread North American jumping spider species. These are highly variable animals across their range, while males are a uniform black & white/ black & silver, females can be varying shades of brown, white, tan, peach, orange, and charcoal. These spiders are found throughout the Southeastern United States, as well as many Caribbean islands.

-Like other jumping spiders, P. regius is arboreal and prefer vertically oriented enclosures and access to vertical structures and retreats to anchor silk hammocks to. They are found in temperate and tropical forested environments, open fields, and forest edge scrub.

-Adult size is variable, but typically 1/2"-3/4" is average with occasional specimens reaching larger size.

  • All sizes are approximations, as these are living creatures some variables will occur. Measurement for spiders is 'DLS' (diagonal leg span). This measurement method is determined when the animal is at rest from the front leg's natural extension to the rearmost legs natural resting position.
