-Red Spike-tail Millipede-

Thyropygus sp. 'Red'

-Millipedes of genus Thyropygus are often referred to as 'spike-tail millipedes'. This is due to the upward turned spine-like protrusion on their terminal body segment, right above the anal plates. The genus is widespread across Southeast Asia and Indonesia. This specific group of red, faintly banded millipedes originates in Thailand.

-Tropical millipedes like Thyropygus benefit from stable, warm, humid conditions. These nocturnal scavenging detritivores will remain under soil, rotting wood, and leaf litter during daylight hours. For all millipedes, success begins with good substrate composition. Rich, organic biodegrading plant matter, leaf litter, hardwood, and flake soil are all excellent ingredients.

-Most of the Thyropygus species I've cared for seem to top out around 5-6" in total length.
