-Golden Blue-leg Baboon-

Harpactira pulchripes

-One of the more stunning South African baboons, this species caused quite a stir when they first debuted in the hobby and commanded high prices. The species is documented primarily from a region of the Eastern Cape known as Makhanda (Grahamstown) and the are is mostly semi-arid grassland and dry forests.

-Old world fossorial. Like most baboon spiders in sub-family Harpactirinae, these spiders prefer access to deep substrate and will either expand existing burrows or create their own. This genus does spend quite a bit more time outside these hides than other baboons and make excellent display spiders.

-Adult size for females is approximately 4-5 inches diagonal legspan.

  • All sizes are approximations, as these are living creatures some variables will occur. Measurement for spiders is 'DLS' (diagonal leg span). This measurement method is determined when the animal is at rest from the front leg's natural extension to the rearmost legs natural resting position.
